there is so much to be enjoyed, cherished
within the mundane, even the unpleasant, lie endless delights
i rolled fresh basil and sugar between my fingers this morning
pungent stains on my palms flavor each task of my day
each accomplishment fresh and full,
each tiny failure containing the promise, the smell of growing things
there is, outside my window, noise- repeated
which sounds so very much like laughter, though not human-borne
some small creature, full of life
pushing peals of life out of petite lungs
as spring approaches, i shed socks
like so many heavy shackles
but today, the lovely crispness of the air swirling through this room
bid me search for those knitted slips
and i relish the comfort & creation of something so simple
i asked for help today
nervous to do so, ashamed of my inept understanding,
i hesitated. but the fever of fear broke
the very moment this request tumbled from my lips
even before help was received, i could breathe freely again
in this new place, i am surrounded by treasures of color and place
evidence of life lived on four continents
rooms and conversations thick with memories of provision, transformation
with a backdrop so vibrant, every moment is brighter
there is so much to be enjoyed, cherished
within the mundane, even the unpleasant, lie endless delights
