close your eyes
isolate each tiny patch of skin
where a raindrop falls
now and now and now.
a lovely, cold sort of burning
feel them, one by one
realize that each sensation
could comprise volumes of literature
this one: a choreographed dance
the next: a delicate crash
still another: a sponge drawing water
more: bright song
and yet, so many fall
in one instant
consider briefly each raindrop
it's journey and composition
the weight of this one
the coolness of the next
follow, if you can, the drop crested on your brow
to your lid, as it drops from your eyelash
to your cheek and rolls off your chin
take these isolated happenings
these tiny stories
attempt, try your best
to feel them all at once
not as one precipatory sheet, soaking you
but as a thousand meetings of water and flesh
feel it
stand for as long as it takes
to feel it
let it wet not only your clothing,
but your mind, your soul
be drenched with knowing
soaked with life
stand in awe
how alive you are!
lift your voice
praise the giver of these drops
the maker of this flesh
the mediator of this meeting
i exalt Thee O Lord
