To Know Resurrection

"There is a strange and important truth to living with Christ not only in his defeat but also in his resurrection. Life usually forces us to live out our sorrows and agony. In this way we are brought to search for some help outside ourselves, some way of finding a new beginning. But just as this search seldom starts until one can picture the nature of the need, so we usually stop short of finding new life until we are able imaginatively to experience the resurrection as a reality, a real possibility within ourselves. Those who have not imagined the events of the resurrection again and again in concrete images can hardly know the power of the Christian message, the ability of light to conquer darkness. Without some kind of experience of Christ's rising from the dead, we can scarcely know the meaning of the atonement, or accept the power of the Spirit to touch and heal the gaping wounds of the world."
