lie down

blades of grass work their way through my hair
cool, damp earth presses into my back
i breathe in life, eyes open

the sky is grey but beautiful
i scoot around, rotate my body to get the best view
framed by reaching branches and crimson leaves

i've been traipsing through campus for an hour
plopping down under good views
looking up, to savor some sweet moment

i have found a favorite
a lovely spot where the tips of two golden trees
knowingly greet a deep, green pine

bending into one another, they seem
so sweetly familiar, branches entwined
friends, whispering, sighing in the slight breeze

i spent some time on a hay wagon this week
same supine posture, same angled view
dark sky, bright stars, a map of this glorious journey

i made hay angels, leaf angels, grass angels
sweeping scissorswipes of legs and arms
scooping up everything i can, relishing this place

i have been made to lie down in pastures
green, gold, crimson and grey
i have seen great branches and celestial treasures

i am at peace
