Power & Peace

the knowledge that you hear my pleas
the certainty that you hear my voice
not philosophy, nor theology
not even belief, but a
strong, warm knowing
growing from within
this sense that all will be made right
this world, cracked open & bleeding
all will be made well- is being
made well, perfection percolating
invigorating, this bright promise
awareness so sharp & sweet, anticipation
sure, desperation to the core
serious, painful JOY i cannot contain
peacefully resting, yet intensely awake
myself, my heart, my words, my life
i will surely explode, combust
in a great gas, a leaping flame
even now, i am leaking
trickling music where i've walked
songs tracked from my steps
prophecies, prayers seep
from the soles of my shoes
i see with double-vision, urgency
the world in front of me, all around me
present and future superimposed
our faces future, even now
lit as lanterns
revealing the circle of fire & light
we stand, called - still & shaking
ready for restoration at the foot of the cross
then and now - in this new resurrection scene
this moment, as we sit in folding chairs
walk with broken gaits to buses
stop, talk, sip our coffee
bake our bread
even now, the Spirit moves in power
biking down the bricks, scripting
inadequate words, imperfect lives
worlds collide. i watch lovers
movie screens, broken, mirror the joining
weddings real in weightless color, pure flesh
sacred, yet human- reaching for the holy
i see these and your triumphant return- simultaneously
i see this barren land AND i see Eden restored
shalom and chaos, converging
within one instant, i laugh, weep to
see blooms & grass - Babylon on fire
blood, brick & mortar
ruin and redemption- meet Jerusalem New
this city stands up, cries out
grasps its inheritance with open hands
as God welcomes his chosen with the grafted branch
into loving, open arms
